Have you been diagnosed with a concussion or are you suspecting you have a concussion? As much as you may want to wait it out and see if it gets better, getting assessed as soon as possible is best. It is no longer recommended that a concussed patient rest in the dark for days on end. Early management is key to your recovery. We can help guide you through the appropriate steps to aid in your recovery.
Concussions are complex injuries that can involve multiple systems in your body. They are not only caused by a blow to the head. A fall or a blow to the chest can also cause a concussion. Along with every concussion, there is a neck injury or whiplash, even if you do not experience neck pain. For instance, you may experience only headaches, dizziness, and balance problems, but if a force was enough to cause a concussion, it will cause issues in the neck as well.
At Restore, we will perform an extensive assessment to determine the severity of your concussion, and which systems have been affected (vision, vestibular/balance, etc). Following your assessment, we will establish a treatment plan where we can provide neuro-muscular treatments, vestibular rehabilitation, exercise therapy, manual therapy, diet and nutritional counselling, and we can refer you to appropriate health care professionals (such as a neuro-optometrist, occupational therapist, or even back to your family doctor) as necessary.
Concussion symptoms include headaches, dizziness, neck pain, visual changes (blurred vision, sensitivity to light), balance changes, cognitive changes (anxiety, irritability), memory changes, difficulty concentrating, and sleep disturbances.
We treat and manage concussion symptoms, visual and vestibular symptoms, neck dysfunction and the musculoskeletal system.
